The Afghan Women's Association International is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization formed in 1992 for the purpose of establishing and defending the basic rights of Afghan women. AWAI's members are women residing in Afghanistan, Europe, Pakistan and the United States.

The death of Safia Amajan and the plight of Afghan women

Safia Amajan head of women’s affairs in Kandahar, Afghanistan, was murdered on her way to work on September 25, 2006.

The 65-year-old mother of four, former teacher and high school principal apparently had gone “too far”.  What did she do?  She worked to advance women’s education, vocational training, and women’s rights. Read more and find out what you can do to help...
