  • June Report: AWAI's Activities

    • Sewing Project: The Jalalabad Women's training center began its operation on 6/2/2002. AWAI's Widows' Project and In the Name of God (an organization based in Afghanistan) jointly started this project to help the Afghan Widows in Jalalabad City to help them to be self sufficient. This training center with train women in the areas of literacy, health, and sewing skill for almost 360 women. The total cost of this program yearly is almost $12000.
    • AWAI's Widows' Project sent $2,000 to start a small training center for women in Herat. One of the directors on our board, Maryem Katibi, worked on this project. A report will be published to keep everyone updated on its progress.
    • $140 donation sent to Abdul Haq Foundation to help the Jalalabad Orphanage
    • $200 donated to Dr. Younus to help him to publish his book about women's rights in Islam.
    • Rona Popal and Shahla Arsala attended fundraising concert (Solidarity with Afghan People) and raised nearly $700.
    • Connected 6 new Afghan widows to 6 families in the Bay Area.
    • $500 sent to Quita Pakistan to support 30 Afghan widows.
    • $100 sent to a blind family in Peshawar, Pakistan.
    • Shahla Arsala spoke at the Global Fund for Women organization about Afghan widows and their needs.
    • AWAI's board of directors meet with In the Name of God director Nima Sadat and designed and sent samples of handi crafts to the Jalalabad training center.
