AWAI is offering an opportunity to help widows and their families now living in Pakistan, and those that have started to return to Afghanistan, through a sponsorship program.

These people in need can actually be pen pals with their sponsors. Writing letters of support to the families is very much encouraged.

Several women with AWAI in the United States are already helping selected families improve their financial, educational and emotional situations.

Anyone interested in providing help to these widows and their children can do the following:

    • Write personal letters of encouragement, letting the widows and their families know people care about them and their situation.
    • Exchange photos of their own families with photos and news of the sponsored families.
    • Help support education by providing materials for schools and families in Pakistan. Currently, about 40% of the more than 200 children in the program are learning in a classroom setting, while the rest are relying on home schooling.
    • Offer Farsi translations of educational materials for local school children. (Example: Provide information on maintaining dental health through diet and regular dental hygiene, such as brushing properly.)
    • Supply funds to help the widows. Sending $25 a month would really help support a widow and family.

AWAI is a non-profit organization, and donations to the organization are tax-deductible. A letter can be sent to donors at the end of each year for tax purposes.

Donations can be sent directly to:
    Bank Account:
    Bank of America
    #17272-04856

    Tax ID:
    Fed ID (EIN) 94-3194605
    State Corp. ID 1851105

Currently, 103 widows and their families are being helped. Since most of the families have at least four children (ranging in age from 3 to 19), life has improved for more than 220 children through this sponsorship program.

Because the situation for the widows and their families is very difficult, AWAI is offering an opportunity for more people to sponsor additional families.

If sponsors need help in communicating with the families, members of AWAI can translate letters from Farsi.
