Report on the Widows' Project
Ongoing Support: With the end of the Taliban's rule of Afghanistan, many of the families supported by our Widow Project and living as refugees in Pakistan are starting to return to Afghanistan. As they will still need our support once back in Afghanistan, we have sent letters to all of these families asking for them to send us their new addresses. We are still receiving 20-25 requests a month for assistance.
The Widow Project is always in need of people to help sponsor Afghan families. Sending $20-$40 a month to support a widow and her family and writing personal letters of encouragement can make a big difference. For more information and how to contribute, click here.
Literacy Program: One of the Widow Project's coordinators, Rahima Haya, will be leaving for Kabul to survey and start a small literacy program for widows in Afghanistan. This program is still in need of financial assistance to help Afghan widows improve their literacy so they can support their families.
Program Coordinator Volunteer: We are currently in need of someone with program coordinator experience to help us organize the Afghan Widows project. This person would use their project management skills to set up systems to ensure that families sponsoring widows and their families in Afghanistan and Pakistan have the support their need.
Sewing Project: The Widow Project is working with a non-profit Afghan organization, In the Name of God, to open a new training center for sewing in Jalalabad. Please click here for more information.
